The transportation industry logged 432.9 billion miles in 2006 according to U.S. DOT statistics, with over 500,000 truck accidents each year. More than 70% of these accidents are the fault of the NON-commercial driver, with only 16% due to the truck driver's fault.

Truck drivers must cope with a variety of working conditions, including variable weather and traffic conditions, boredom, and in cab distractions. Add the problem of sharing the road with erratic drivers and you have a recipe for tragedy.

The PreView Side Object Detection (SOD) system for transport and delivery provides the driver with the needed situational awareness necessary to react quickly to the changing landscape. An active solution to an ongoing problem, PreView SOD informs the driver when an object or vehicle has entered the blind area before making a lane change or other maneuver.

It is not uncommon for a driver to be checking the left side mirrors as trained, only to have an erratic driver slip into the blind side just as a lane change is attempted. With PreView SOD, the driver will be notified both visually and audibly that the situation has changed, making the maneuver dangerous.
